Brad studied business and commerce at Long Island University in New York. Prior to founding Innovative Capital Protection, Brad started Assured Financial Solutions and consulted with Secure Capital Management where he focused on bringing distinctive planning solutions to the Owner Managed Business marketplace. Brad ensures his clients have access to all options, in any market, regardless of where located. Brad believes in surrounding himself with the best internal and external resources thus ensuring his product offerings are first in class and technically sound. Brad takes great pride putting together a unique, comprehensive plan with a very defined outcome.
Vance LeCocq, CPA, CA, TEP
Chief Financial Officer
Vance has worked in the insurance industry since 2013, and prior to that was a partner of a national chartered accounting firm where he led the privately held business and high net worth area of the planning practice and was known for bringing a creative yet practical approach to various situations including transaction based matters (i.e. buying and selling business/assets, succession and estate planning matters, strategies using trusts, and overall burden minimization strategies). Soon after obtaining his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation he completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Course and practiced full time in this career since 1998.
Vance is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He is past chairperson of the Calgary Branch of STEP and a past member of the STEP Canada Board of Directors.
Rick Barnay, CA
Rick has 28 years of experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Alberta with approximately 20 years in Edmonton and 8 years in Calgary. Rick’s experience related to a broad range of services that included family estate planning, transactional support for significant asset and share purchase transactions and various taxation issues facing middle market and growing companies with a particular focus on privately held companies. The industry sectors Rick worked with included providing services to clients operating in Alberta’s oil and gas services, real estate, manufacturing, retail and forestry sectors.
Rick graduated from the University of Alberta in 1992, with distinction, earning his CA designation in 1994.
Dave has over 15 years of industry experience specializing in wealth management strategies and estate planning for private corporations and their shareholders. His goal, with all his clients, is to deliver and support innovative financial strategies to meet the unique needs of each client. Dave’s deep understanding of insurance products and their applications create structures which bring tremendous value to clients and their advisors. Outside of the financial world, Dave is a father and a husband of a very active family. From surfing in San Diego to cycling and skiing in Vancouver, Dave enjoys all the west coast has to offer.
Barin has over 20 years’ experience working in Private Banking and Wealth Management for several of Canada’s largest financial institutions. He has assisted High Net Worth families in providing advice around specialized lending structures, tax planning, estate planning, risk management, investment counsel, wealth planning and intergenerational wealth transfer. His extensive financial background and experience allows him to navigate complex structures while identifying opportunities to structure, preserve and optimize his client’s wealth.
Barin holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of British Columbia (1997). He is also a certified Professional Financial Planner (PFP) and Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP).
Banking and Operations Manager
Sam joined ICP as our Banking and Operations Manager. Based in Calgary, but focused in all markets across the country, Sam’s role is focused around knowing and understanding clients’ sophisticated borrowing needs. Sam opens the line of communication between clients and their existing banking advisors helping work with them in the structuring, understanding and positioning of Innovative planning solutions within their existing situations. With over 8 years in the banking industry, and most recently in Private Wealth, Sam has experience in complex structures, credit adjudication for high valued clients and understands the complexities borrowers and their bankers can face.
Outside of work, Sam enjoys a very active lifestyle, loves travelling and spending time with family.
Client Relations Manager
Karolina is the center of communication at Innovative Capital Protection. She organizes and coordinates each client’s customized planning while striving to ensure that all her clients receive the most positive experience possible.
Karolina completed her Criminal Justice Diploma from Langara College and eventually found that her passion lies in the financial industry. As well as being a licensed insurance agent for over 11 years, Karolina brings over 20 years of experience in customer service and sales.
In her spare time, Karolina loves spending time with her family, traveling, snowboarding and her day would not be complete without a cup of coffee.
Based in our Ontario office, Rita has dedicated herself to providing a positive and supportive environment for our clients and our team. She works hard to maintain our strong client relationships, assisting when and where she can. With over 25 years of experience in client services and accounting, she has proven that her commitment and precision allow her to excel in her role. She is proud to represent the ICP team and proud of her work.
Rita loves her time with friends and family, enjoys yoga and considers breakfast a meal to be enjoyed at any time of the day.
Megan joined the ICP team in late 2020 as Executive Assistant. Megan has a varied background with experience as a Corporate Tax Paralegal and, later, as an Account Manager in the group insurance industry. Before becoming part of the ICP team, Megan gained marketing and management skills during her time as a sales lead for a growing athletic supplement company.
Her experience in various fields makes it easy for her to adapt and manage several different tasks with a keen eye for detail. Outside the office, you are likely to find Megan baking specialty cakes or training and competing in Olympic style weightlifting
